Press release: CMAA strongly rejects baseless Thai mine allegations and urges compliance with the Joint Declaration
On 11 November 2025, the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) issued a press release, expressing deep regret and strongly rejecting recent “unfounded and defamatory” reports by certain Thai media outlets accusing Cambodia of laying new landmines along the border.
The CMAA views these accusations as undermining the ongoing cooperative efforts of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Coordinating Task Force (JCTF) on humanitarian demining. The authority noted that the allegations stemmed from an incident on 9 November 2025, where two Thai soldiers were injured in the border area, which Thailand subsequently used as a pretext to unilaterally suspend the implementation of the Joint Declaration signed on 26 October 2025. The CMAA reaffirmed that Cambodia, as a steadfast supporter of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention), has never used and will never use anti-personnel mines under any circumstances.
